Jeff Griffin, his wife, Sarah, and their son, Cole, take a much-needed vacation to New York City, but the fun quickly turns into a nightmare. Jeff runs into a store for a few seconds to buy batteries, leaving his family outside looking over a vendor table. When he returns, they are nowhere to be found. A street person tells Jeff he watched a van pull up, grab them, and throw them into the back of the vehicle. The police have their doubts, and Jeff realizes he has to take the law into his own hands if he's going to find his family. VERDICT Mofina (The Burning Edge; Six Seconds) is one of the best thriller writers in the business, and Jeff's painful journey of trying to reunite his family will resonate with readers. The characters ring true, and the payoff is both emotional and shocking.--Jeff Ayers, Seattle P.L.
