Bayeux Tapestry with PAM HOLLAND • The story behind Pam’s Bayeux Tapestry quilt began long before the first stitch was made. In July 2005, in a bookstore in the USA, Pam stumbled upon a publication that would unknowingly change the course of her creative life. Four hours passed in a blur as she became absorbed by the imagery and the sweeping narrative stitched into the ancient linen of the original Bayeux Tapestry. By the time Pam closed the book, she had a vision of reinterpreting this historic masterpiece as a quilt. What followed was a year of intense research, a year of designing and the beginning of a journey that Pam is still on today.

Zigzag • Zigzags are used to create dynamic, energetic patterns in textiles, architecture and graphic design. They can evoke movement, tension or playfulness. Zigzags in quilts are a bold design choice that can bring rhythm, movement and modern flair to traditional patchwork. Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or just starting out, zigzag patterns offer tons of creative possibilities.

COG wheels • This pattern is started with strip piecing that is then cut into wedge shapes. Grace has used a 22.5-degree wedge ruler but you can make your own template referring to the Pattern Sheet. The complementary colours of red, green and lime really pop with the addition of brightly printed black fabric.

STATE OF THE ART 2025 • This year’s State of the Art 2025 (SOTA 25) exhibition was juried by Zara Zannettino and judged by Lorraine Carthew and Carley Cornelissen. This annual exhibition was a showcase of 25 contemporary textile art pieces by members of the Queensland Quilters' Guild. The event toured regional galleries across Queensland, creating incredible opportunities for engagement, inspiration and dialogue around quilting as a modern art form.

SWEET bows • We hope you enjoy this quilt that first appeared in the May 2019 issue of Homespun magazine. There are no curved seams to piece in this pretty quilt using soft pastels and Suffolk puffs. Simply follow the instructions to create quarter circle wedge blocks and then appliqué them to your quilt top and add Suffolk puffs.
